Your post, priced to the hour.
Change the headcount, hours or date and the price moves as you type. Minimums, overtime, holidays and supervisors are already in it, so the number you see is the number we'd quote you on the phone.
Overnight post
One guard on a 12-hour overnight post is $637.00 before GST: a guard alone on a post is a team lead, so they can run it without backup, and the 4 hours past 8 bill as overtime.

This price is an estimate, not a booking. Every request is subject to management approval and our booking terms. If we approve it, we send you a final binding estimate to accept. If the scope changes after that, we send an updated estimate to approve, and we never charge more than you've approved.
Overnight on a property? A monitored camera with a guard on call often costs far less than a guard all night. See XA Presence →
Ongoing or multi-site? Volume rates exist.
Weekly programs, several sites, season contracts or long-term posts have volume rates. They depend on the hours, the sites and the term, so they start with a conversation.
The fine print, in plain English.
The full version is our Terms and Conditions. This is what it means.
- Four-hour minimum
- Every shift bills at least 4 hours, or 4.5 for supervisors. End times round up to the next half hour.
- Supervisors
- One supervisor for every 8 guards on site that day, across all your shifts, starting 30 minutes early to walk the site with you. A one-guard event request is staffed by a supervisor, and a one-guard property post by a team lead. Event teams of 30 or more add a dispatcher, and every 7 supervisors add a manager. Supervisors you ask for yourself count toward these.
- Overtime
- Hours over 8 in a day or 44 in a week bill at 1.5×, whichever adds up to more. The calculator works it out per person.
- Holidays
- Shifts that start on an Alberta general holiday bill at 2×. Easter Monday, Heritage Day, September 30, Boxing Day and New Year's Eve bill at 1.5×. Holiday and overtime rates never stack.
- Short notice
- Ask for a shift less than 48 hours out and a 50% premium applies, because we're pulling people off other plans to cover you.
- Estimates
- Every price here is an estimate, not a booking. Each request is subject to management approval and our booking terms. If we approve it, we send you a final binding estimate to accept. If the scope changes after that, we send an updated estimate to approve, and we never charge more than you've approved.
- Payment
- No deposit and no card online. Once you accept the final estimate and we confirm, our finance team sets up your account from the details you give us and invoices you. Wire, EFT, e-Transfer or cheque; credit cards add 2.4%; debit cards add nothing.
- Cancelling
- A request costs nothing, and if we decline it or can't staff it, you owe nothing. Once it's confirmed, cancel or cut hours inside 24 hours of a shift and those hours bill in full.
- Where
- These prices cover sites with a Calgary or Edmonton address. Elsewhere in Alberta, travel time is billed at each person's hourly rate and counts toward overtime. We price it from your address before we confirm anything.
- Tax
- Prices are before 5% GST. If the work needs radios, a vehicle or accommodation, we price them before you confirm.
Fair questions.
Why put prices on the page?
Because you find out eventually anyway, and the back-and-forth wastes a week of your time and ours. Others publish ranges. The calculator gives you the price we would quote you on the phone, with the minimums and premiums included.
What does each XA department do?
Event security staffs concerts, festivals, sports and private events: entry, bag checks, crowd and floor posts, with supervisors and a dispatcher at scale. Property security puts a licensed guard on a fixed post, such as a lobby, construction site, gate or building, for a shift or around the clock. Mobile patrol is a guard in a marked XA vehicle who checks your sites on a route, or stays dedicated to them. XA Parking runs lots and traffic: entry, payment, directing cars and keeping lanes clear at events and venues. xa.LIVE supplies stage crew: stagehands for load-in and load-out, followspot operators and crew chiefs for touring and local shows. Security work is licensed under Alberta's Security Services and Investigators Act; parking and stage crew don't need a security licence.
Is the calculator price the real price?
Inside Calgary and Edmonton, it's the price for what you entered. It moves only if the work does: more people, more hours, or a later change inside 24 hours. Outside those two cities we add travel, and anything extra you ask for (radios, a vehicle) is priced separately. All of it is in the final estimate before anything is booked.
Do I pay anything to send a request?
No. There's no deposit and no card. A person checks the request, calls you and, if we can take it, sends you a final binding estimate to accept. Once you accept it, our finance team sets up your account from the billing details you gave us and invoices you.
Do you take every request?
No. Every request is subject to management approval and our booking terms. We check the site, the risk, and whether we can staff it properly. Sending a request doesn't commit either of us. It's booked when you accept our final estimate and we confirm in writing.
Property guard or mobile patrol?
A property guard stays on one post for the whole shift. Mobile patrol is a guard in a marked XA vehicle; requested here, it's dedicated to your sites for the shift. If you only need a few checks a night, patrol stops cost far less than a dedicated vehicle.
Can I get a better rate?
Volume rates exist for ongoing programs, multi-site contracts and long-term posts. They depend on the hours, the sites and the term, so they start with a conversation. We don't discount one-off shifts.
Why would I pay this instead of the cheapest quote?
Licensed, trained guards who show up, with supervisors, a 24/7 Dispatch desk in Calgary and written reports. Ask the cheapest quote what's included, and what it costs once the minimums and holidays are added.
Where does the money go?
Mostly to the guard. On top of every hour worked we pay CPP, EI, vacation pay, holiday pay and WCB, then the supervisors, the 24/7 Dispatch desk, licensing, training and insurance. What's left is a small margin, and we'd rather show you the price than pretend it's lower and make it up in extras.
Can I ask for a wedding or a private party?
Yes. Same prices, same four-hour minimum, whether you're a business or asking for yourself. A person reviews every request, and nothing is invoiced until you've accepted the final estimate. The booking terms linked at the bottom of this page have the details.
